Dear Sirs / Madams
I am Y and was granted Working Holiday Visa from New- Zealand, planed to have my first visit to Christchurch on early the October (public holiday in China) this year.
My plan was,
30th Sep, Depart from Hangzhou, China to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
1st Oct, Depart from Kuala Lumpur to Christchurch
6th Oct, Leaving Christchurch back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
7th Oct, Have one day trip to Penang, Malaysia
8th Oct, From Kuala Lumpur back to Hangzhou China.
My fellow traveller, named X, would basically have the same route with me but have different flight from China to Malaysia.
However, today I got an email, in which airasia said their company would cancel this route (Kuala Lumpur to Christchurch) and it will not offer an alternative flight for the same route. (see attachment 1). The company of Airasia would only offer the following option (i think all of them are totally unacceptable and unjustified),
1, refund the ticket from Kuala Lumper to Christchurch
Totally unacceptable, because my fellow and I paid far more lot of money, to acquire the visa, brought flight tickets other than flight from KUL-CHC, and book hotel. These expense amount to USD2130.00 (around NZD2556.00), details see attachment 2.
2, re-time to flight before June.
Impossible for me. Early the Oct is public holiday in China, and I have no opportunity to leave office for so long in the rest of the year. Actually, the fare I paid for flight depart from China in holiday is considerably more expansive than fare for normal days.
3, re-route to Australia and buy tickets by ourselves for trans-Tasman travel.
It's the most ridiculous option. Additional visa is needed to transit in Australia. It is Airasia's fault, not us, but Airasia ask us to buy tickets on our own expense!
I have to say I am so disappointed for what they have done. Just one day before their announcement of cancellation, they still email us, try to persuade us to pay and upgrade for the same route (see attachment 2). I think they are totally act in bad faith and absolutely ignore the legal right of our consumers.
From the above, I hope the commission would get involved and investigation this issue asap and push the airline to offer an amicable proposal.
